The Royal Foundation
Mission & Purpose
Opening Fairways. Honoring Legacy. Building Futures
The Royal Foundation exists to expand access to and engagement in the game of golf for children and young adults with a particular emphasis on underserved and minority communities while honoring the rich history and heritage of African Americans in golf and preserving the legacy of the Royal Golf Club, the first and oldest African American golf organization in the United States.
The Royal Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization rooted in one of Washington, D.C.’s most enduring legacies the Royal Golf Club, founded in 1933 and recognized as the first and oldest African American golf organization in the United States.
What We Believe
We believe that golf is more than a sport.
We were established with a clear and purposeful mission: to ensure that the game of golf and all the opportunity it carries is accessible to every child, regardless of their zip code, background, or economic circumstance.
It is a vehicle for discipline, confidence, networking, scholarship, and lifelong opportunity. We also believe that the history of African Americans in golf is a story of excellence, resilience, and community and that story deserves to be told, celebrated, and passed on to the next generation.
For too long, barriers of race and economics have kept the golf course out of reach for many young people in our communities. The Royal Foundation is here to change that.
THE ROYAL FOUNDATION
Rooted in History.
Committed to the Future.
The same community that fought for the right to play is now fighting to ensure the next generation never has to fight for that right again
The Royal Foundation is committed
The Royal Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to expanding golf access for underserved youth and honoring the legacy of African American golf history.
A Washington, D.C. — and a nation — where every young person has the opportunity to pick up a golf club, discover their potential, and connect with a community of excellence that has been building champions since 1933.
We work to remove the financial, geographic, and social barriers that prevent children and young adults in underserved and minority communities from participating in the game of golf.
Through programs, clinics, mentorship, and tournament opportunities, we invest in the growth and development of young golfers on and off the course.
We are dedicated to promoting and preserving the rich history and heritage of African Americans in golf, ensuring that the pioneering stories of clubs like the Royal Golf Club and organizations like the United Golfers Association (UGA) are never forgotten.
We are committed to operating with inclusivity at our core welcoming all people regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or age.
