Teeing Up the Next Generation
The Royal Foundation’s programs are designed to do what the Royal Golf Club has always done open doors, build community, and develop champions. Every initiative we launch is grounded in our commitment to making golf accessible, educational, and transformative for young people in Washington, D.C. and beyond.
THE ROYAL FOUNDATION
Rooted in History.
Committed to the Future.
The same community that fought for the right to play is now fighting to ensure the next generation never has to fight for that right again
Getting Young People on the Course
Many young people in underserved communities have never held a golf club. Our introductory clinics change that. We partner with local schools, recreation centers, and community organizations to bring free and low-cost golf instruction directly to youth who would otherwise never have access to the sport.
Program Highlights:
- Beginner golf clinics for ages 7–17
- Equipment provided at no cost to participants
- Certified instructors and Royal Golf Club member mentors
- Held at accessible public courses including historic Langston Golf Course
- Seasonal programming throughout the year
Investing in Young Scholars and Golfers
Golf opens doors to college campuses, corporate boardrooms, and lifelong networks. The Royal Foundation's scholarship program supports college-bound young adults who demonstrate both academic achievement and a commitment to their community.
Program Highlights:
- Annual scholarships awarded to qualifying students
- Priority consideration for students from underserved communities in the Washington, D.C. metro area
- Recipients connected to the Royal Golf Club's network of professionals and mentors
- Applications open each spring (details to be announced)
Telling the Full Story of Golf in America
The history of African Americans in golf is a history of courage, excellence, and community organizing and most people have never heard it. The Royal Foundation is committed to changing that through education, storytelling, and community programming.
Program Highlights:
- Educational materials and presentations on African American golf history
- Partnerships with D.C. area schools and libraries
- Recognition of the United Golfers Association (UGA) legacy
- Celebration of the Royal Golf Club's founding and its role in building Langston Golf Course
- Annual heritage events and commemorations
Beyond the Fairway
Golf teaches discipline, integrity, patience, and how to compete with grace. Our mentorship program connects young participants with Royal Golf Club members and community professionals who use the game as a platform to teach life skills and career readiness.
Program Highlights:
- One-on-one and group mentorship opportunities
- Networking events connecting youth with professionals
- College and career preparation workshops
- Annual recognition ceremony honoring outstanding youth participants
Competing on the Course They Helped Build
We are proud to develop a Junior Tournament Series that gives young golfers the opportunity to compete in a structured, supportive environment carrying on the competitive tradition that the Royal Golf Club has championed for nearly a century.
Program Highlights:
- Age-divided competitive divisions
- Held at Washington, D.C. area public courses
- Trophies, recognition, and scholarship opportunities for top finishers
- A pipeline to regional and national junior golf competition
